Changelog

Site updates! This is where I let everyone know what's new here. Feel free to add the RSS feed to your favorite RSS reader to keep up-to-date on what I've got cooking.

For those of you who wanted more game reviews, this goes out to you. Not only does hifi finally have a game review section (I deferred it back in April and then got lazy), but there's two new PS2 reviews, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom and Jimmy Neutron: Jet Fusion with screenshots captured from console and everything! New ones will go up every Friday until my pool of screenshots runs out. Remember to follow the feed if you're not!
By the way, the porting of the game reviews makes hifi content complete. mari.somnol, aside from a few minor graphical touchups and a lot more content, is complete after many long years of waiting and working. Welcome home, everyone.

Some new entries in the art gallery for your viewing pleasure?

One of my trademark two hour projects: those nofi/lofi/hifi links at the bottom of every page will take you to the corresponding page on the other two sites! I was originally gonna convert the whole site to PHP for this, but AutoSite does it just as well with less effort. Now, wherever you are, you can flip over to the other two sites and pick right back up. Small thing, but so satisfying.

The changelog is now paginated at 15 entries a page. This should make it less of an infinity scroll, especially on nofi and small screen sizes.

New page in my album recommendations section, Early Hints! This is a quick and dirty, 140 character roundup of whatever albums I'm listening to right now and trying to figure out how I feel about, the stopgap between getting a review and not being on my site at all. I think it'll be a lot of fun, and hopefully will let me acknowledge a bunch more albums without having to write the definitive Cammy review on them first.

hifi folks now have a story section as well! I am working on getting one of my newer stories in the proper format for posting. Keep an eye out. I promise there is more on the way.

Lots and lots of site things grinding away in the background, but lofi friends, you now have a stories section! I have nearly completed the convoluted DocBook build system for synchronizing my stories across the three site versions. hifi's will be complete tomorrow. Then? I really should get back to actually writing, make use of all this technology I've stapled together...

mari_v1 theme for hifi! This was the very first site design I ever had on somnolescent.net, and it wasn't far off from my last Neocities site design too. I remember strata hated the scrolling window thing, so I named it after him. Funny to think I probably hated all these designs at some point and now I'm not only fond of them again, I'm making my new site viewable through their lenses.
(Minor thing, but there's also now favicons on the site. Took me long enough. nofi and lofi will get the older browser-relevant ones too.)

Seeing as I now have tons of time thanks to being Unemployed, been getting around to all the things I've said for ages I was gonna do and never did. New hifi theme! This one's based off mariteaux Online, the fake 90s site I made shortly before I left Neocities, if you remember that. (And if you do, you're OLD.) Surprisingly only took like two hours to build. I'm easily amused.

hifi now has album reviews! I meant to get the game reviews over tonight as well, but I worked a ten hour shift and my eyes hurt. nofi and lofi also link to hifi and have proper canonical URLs now. There's still lots of post launch work to be done, but words can't describe how happy I am with how it's all come out now that it's all wired up. I have spent so much time just clicking around my own site in the past day or so.

Still gotta bring some pages over, but come visit the new mariteaux.somnolescent.net!

Pages are still getting moved over, things are in progress. All the modding stuff is done now, just gotta get the music and writing pages sorted (and build more themes, of course). hifi will be live by the end of this month. It will be real. And you're gonna like it.

Theme switcher is fully implemented! It took a little bit to figure out the cookie check and optimizing it, but it's working lovely now and I couldn't be happier with it. With it comes a second theme, based on mari_nc1, my very first Neocities site. If you want to pretend the platypus years never ended, soon will be your chance! (It is legitimately surreal to see my modern art and projects alongside the old VMB banners and in this layout and color scheme. I wrote up a journal post if you want to read more about it.)

Happy first site update of the new year! Well, less a site update and more a note here to say that hifi is finally being built! I've translated the old mari_v3 design (which will be the default hifi theme) to grid and flex and it is working very nicely on my phone. Porting the pages over from lofi will not take long at all. Somnolians, you know where to find the build on my home server if you wanna check it out early!

My site started to feel a little isolated, and I had to add Connor's new button anyway, so there are plenty more 88x31s at the bottom of every page now! Some of these are friends' sites, some are sites I like quite a bit, some are musicians and bands who I'm a big fan of, and in nya's case, it's long overdue for him using my button on his site. I'm sure there's lots more I could add, but we'll start with these, yeah? (Careful browsing these on retro machines, as a lot of them are not retro-optimized—some are, but not all!)
